‘Jersey’ shores up Chicago run

Tony winner extends engagement indefinitely

After playing to sold-out houses in Chicago since opening in October, “Jersey Boys” will extend its Windy City engagement indefinitely. Tix are now on sale for perfs through July 13.

Tony-winning tuner about Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons has broken several house records at the LaSalle Bank Theater, one of four venues programmed by Nederlander Org’s Broadway in Chicago.

Announcement means that two of those theaters now have established, long-term engagements of Broadway hits, with “Wicked” playing at the Ford Center/Oriental since June 2005 and showing no signs of slowing.

The extended engagement of “Jersey Boys” seems likely to increase pressure on the city and on Broadway in Chicago to investigate additional commercial venues in the downtown Loop area or nearby. Touring shows will now either play the Cadillac Palace or the somewhat less appealing Auditorium Theater of Roosevelt U.
