NEW YORK — After a gravity-defying two weeks, the January blues finally waylaid the road: The 13-show slate is down about 6.5% to $16,067,644.

Big tuners playing musical venues took the wind out of the sales for Week 33 (Jan. 7-13): “Wicked” still broke the house record in Cincinatti with more than $1.4 million, but it left about $860,000 behind in St. Louis. “The Phantom of the Opera” left Chicago for Louisville and came up about $370,000 shy of last week’s gross, and “The Lion King” dropped two perfs and about $440,000 as it moved into Pittsburgh.

The Mexico City production of “Lion King” picked up some of the shortfall with a gain of about $600,000 in Mexico City, and “High School Musical” got a similar-sized bump from its first week in the recently-vacated Fox.

The highest-grossing show on the charts was the Cheetah tour of “The Lion King” in Mexico City, with 28,417,960 pesos ($2,624,398).
