Geffen pushes back Margulies play

Daniel Sullivan will direct 'Elephant'

The world premiere of a Donald Margulies’ play at the Geffen Playhouse has been pushed back to next season and will be replaced by his “Shipwrecked! An Entertainment: The Amazing Adventures of Louis de Rougemont (As Told by Himself).”

Daniel Sullivan will direct the Geffen-commissioned work, which has the working title of “The Elephant in the Room.”

Project was postponed to allow Sullivan to helm the piece. Sullivan, who has directed Margulies’ “Dinner with Friends,” “Sight Unseen” and “Brooklyn Boy,” was not available this spring.

“Shipwrecked!,” which will run June 25 to Aug. 3, was commissioned by South Coast Repertory and had a limited run at the theater’s Julianne Argyros Stage in the fall. Bart DeLorenzo, who helmed the SCR production as well as the Geffen’s world premiere of “Joan Rivers: A Work in Progress by a Life in A Life in Progress,” will direct.
