Broadway preview to begin at Shubert venue

The rumored Broadway run of Horton Foote’s “Dividing the Estate” will materialize in the fall, in a production to be presented by Lincoln Center Theater in one of the Shubert Org’s Rialto venues.

LCT presents the show by arrangement with Primary Stages, the Off Broadway troupe that produced it last fall.

Several thesps will reprise their roles, including Elizabeth Ashley, Hallie Foote, Gerald McRaney, Penny Fuller and Arthur French. Helmer Michael Wilson again directs.

At Primary Stages, the show won critical praise for both the play and the cast. Plot centers on the conflicts that arise as a family plans how it will divide a Texas estate once its matriarch has died.

Foote’s work was last seen on Broadway in 1997 with “The Young Man from Atlanta” (which won a Pulitzer), while a well-received Off Broadway revival of his play “A Trip to Bountiful” was a much-discussed candidate for a Rialto transfer in 2005. As a screenwriter, the scribe has won Oscars for his screenplays for “To Kill a Mockingbird” and “Tender Mercies.”

“Estate” begins previews Oct. 23 ahead of a Nov. 20 opening at a Shubert theater yet to be determined. Limited run will be part of the LCT season.
