David Esbjornson has announced that he will not be renewing his contract at the Seattle Repertory Theater, where he currently serves as artistic director. His contract expires June 30, 2009.
Board of trustees prexy Marty Taucher said in a statement that he was disappointed with the decision but understood that “a complex series of factors informed his thinking.” Esbjornson, who has also worked at New York’s Classic Stage Company, joined the Seattle Rep in 2005.
Esbjornson will be finishing out the 08-09 season at Seattle Rep. The latest offering from the theater is Seamus Heaney’s “The Cure at Troy,” an adaptation of Sophocles “Philoktetes,” directed by Tina Landau, which closes May 3.
