Hogan replaces Cullum in New Group's play

Joseph Cross (“Running With Scissors”), Anson Mount (“In Her Shoes”), Mark Blum (“Twelve Angry Men”) and Robert Hogan are among the thesps to join the cast of the New Group’s Off Broadway production of “Mourning Becomes Electra.”

Jazz musician Pat Metheny will compose original music for the staging of the Eugene O’Neill play, a Civil War-era retelling of the Greek tale of the Oresteia.

Lili Taylor and Jena Malone were previously announced to head the cast as the matriarch and daughter of the Mannon clan. Hogan will take on the role that was to have been played by John Cullum, who has since been cast in “August: Osage County.”

Derek McLane (sets), Jason Lyons (lights), Susan Hilferty (costumes) and Shane Rettig (sound) make up the design team. Helmed by New Group a.d. Scott Elliott, “Electra” begins previews Jan. 27 and opens Feb. 19 at Theater Row.
