‘Avenue Q’s’ absence darkens road

Road Grosses

NEW YORK — The road fell about 14% in Week 6 (June 30-July 6), bringing the total gross for the 12-show slate to $11,197,757, partially due to the absence of “Avenue Q” this week.

Almost all of the productions saw a decrease this past Fourth of July week, but some still saw notable numbers. Buffalo, N.Y.’s “Wicked” drew $1,404,181, and Cleveland’s “Jersey Boys” earned $1,302,888 — more than $200,000 down from last week.

Most tuners, however, saw their numbers nosedive; “Monty Python’s Spamalot” moved to Vancouver, B.C., and only pulled in $324,167, more than $590,000 less than last week in Fort Worth, Texas, and “The Color Purple” dipped $155,000 on its way to $510,790.

“The Lion King” was the only show to see an uptick and over-sold once again in Washington, D.C., bringing its total to $1,492,872 — $18,000 more than its potential, rounding out the week as the top grosser.
