Theatrical “Hairspray” is coming to China in July, the latest big-name musical to land in Shanghai.
There will be 20 performances of the tuner, starring Brooklynn Pulver, at the Shanghai theater, theater prexy Fang Shizhong told the official Xinhua news agency.
Shanghai will be the first Asian city to host the musical, Fang said.
The theater has successfully tapped the growing interest in musicals in China and imported about a dozen musicals, including “The Lion King.”
“Shanghai has become an emerging city for the industry of musicals in Asia, following in the footsteps of Broadway in New York and London’s West End,” said Fang.
