Wide Management has acquired worldwide rights to “Gigola,” a French erotic drama helmed by Volker Schlondorff and starring Asia Argento, Philippe Torreton, Marisa Paredes, Ute Lemper and Marisa Berenson.
Budgeted at e9 million ($14 million), the pic will be produced by Denise Petitdidier for Marie Amelie Production and is set for a November shoot in Paris with a May delivery date.
Plot explores the world of prostitutes in the ’60s. Argento plays George, a young woman who loses herself in the nightlife of 1960s-era Paris after the suicide of her female lover, and eventually becomes a gigolo catering to women.”Schlondorff always brings his own universe into his films, and this time, he will also express nostalgia because he holds dear memories of his adolescence spent in Paris during the ’60s,” said Loic Magneron, Wide Management general manager.
The script is based on Laure Charpentier’s erotic novel “Gigola,” which was first published in 1972.
Charpentier teamed up with Petitdidier to adapt the novel.
