MADRID — Miami-based Venevision Intl. has picked up U.S. DVD, video-on-demand, pay-per-view, pay and free-to-air TV rights to Colombian box office hit “Esto huele mal” (Lies), a sex comedy helmed by Jorge Ali Triana.
Pic was sold by Spanish sales consortium Latido Films.
Written by Fernando Quiroz and inspired by a true story, “Lies” is about a businessman trying to cover up a date with his lover after a bomb destroys the Bogota club where he was supposedly having a business dinner.
Produced by Clara Maria Ochoa’s Bogota-based shingle CMO Prods., one of Colombia’s top production shingles, “Lies” continues CMO’s relationship with Venevision.
Venevision acquired U.S. rights to CMO’s black comedy “Sonar no cuesta nada” (A Ton of Luck) from Latido last year.
Venevision Intl. is a pioneer distributor of Spanish films for the U.S. Hispanic market. It launched its U.S. cable service Venemovies in May, 2006.
