HONG KONG — India’s UTV Motion Pictures will open “Race” on 1,600 screens worldwide this weekend.
Directed by brothers Abbas and Mastan Alibhai Burmawalla, known as Abbas Mastan in India, “Race” stars Bipasha Basu, Katrina Kaif, Sameera Reddy, Saif Ali Khan, Akshaye Khanna and Anil Kapoor.
Tips Industries produced the South Africa-set story of greed and revenge that pitches two brothers against each other.
UTV will release pic on 1,300 screens in India, delivering 3,600 screenings per day. Some 450 prints are digital.
It will go out on 300 screens in 25 other countries including 118 engagements in North America, 56 in the U.K., 30 in the Gulf region and 14 in Australia.
Scale of the release exceeds UTV’s recent blockbuster “Jodhaa Akbar,” which has now grossed 1.2 billion rupees ($29.7 million) worldwide since its release last month.
