United Artists pacts with McQuarrie

Writer/director gets first-look deal at studio

Scribe Christopher McQuarrie has inked a first-look pact with United Artists.

Deal follows Paul Haggis signing a nonexclusive deal with the revamped label for his Hwy61 Films shingle. UA recently struck a deal with the WGA, allowing scribes to continue working on their projects throughout the strike.

McQuarrie is producing the upcoming UA title “Valkyrie,” which he co-wrote with Nathan Alexander. Film is helmed by Bryan Singer and stars Tom Cruise.

Singer and McQuarrie are frequent collaborators. The pair teamed up on “The Usual Suspects,” among other projects.

McQuarrie’s upcoming projects include “The Stanford Prison Experiment,” which he co-wrote and is set to direct.
