STOCKHOLM — Exhibs reported a 24% rise in revenue from pre-screening commercials in Sweden last year.
In 2006, exhibs made $12.3 million from commercials. In 2007, the figure rose to $15 million.
During the first six months of 2008, giant SF Media, owned by distrib-exhib Svensk, reported a 10% increase over the previous year.
Svensk has a ceiling of 10 minutes of commercials and 12 minutes of trailers before the start of a film. David Bonnier, head of sales at SF Media, said: “During the last three years we have sold more than ever.”
He cites the past year’s economical boom as the reason, with more advertisers than ever wanting a piece of the cinema audience’s attention.
However, with the current slump in the economy, there’s a fear that the biz might be affected.
