Swedish films draw Dubai berths

'Arn: The Night Templar' to screen at festival

CANNES — The Swedish Film Institute plans to present the country’s films at the Dubai Film Festival in December.

A string of features will be screened, and the plan is to bring the major sales companies along to promote and sell Swedish films in the Middle East.

Pia Lundberg, head of international affairs at the Swedish Film Institute, said, “There is great interest in Swedish cinema in the area, and this is a way to capitalize on that.”

One film to be screened will be the international version of epic “Arn: The Knight Templar.”

In Scandinavia, pic plays as a two-parter, while the international version edits the two films down to one movie with a running time just over two hours.

In November, the Swedish Film Institute will screen 10-12 new films at Cinema de Pantheon in Paris, bringing in several helmers and actors to talk about their films.

In fall 2009, Lincoln Center in New York will shine a spotlight on Swedish film history, unspooling 35-40 features.
