Svensk exec plans life after ‘Arn’

Mardell leaves post to set up production unit

STOCKHOLM — Johan Mardell, head of production at leading Swedish film company Svensk, is ankling April 1 to set up his own shingle.

Mardell is overseeing post-production on the second of the big-budget “Arn — the Knight Templar” pics, and will continue to work as exec producer until the project is complete.

“As we now end the production of the biggest film project ever in Scandinavia, I feel the time is right to change direction in my professional life and engage myself as an independent producer,” Mardell said.

Svensk CEO Rasmus Ramstad added: “Johan will continue to work part-time until June on the ‘Arn’ project, both the sequel and the international version, which will be a feature edited together from the two Swedish films.”

Mardell, who previously worked at Swedish Television, joined Svensk in 2003. He has executive produced pics including “Popular Music” and feature/DVD series “Van Veeteren.”

The hunt for a new head of production is under way.
