BERLIN — Paramount Pictures Intl. has tapped Sony Pictures Releasing’s marketing chief in Germany, Sven Sturm, as general manager of Paramount Pictures Germany, its new distribution operation in the country.
Sturm will take up his duties in September and will be based in Par’s newly established German headquarters in Munich.
Paramount Pictures Germany will begin operation in January, two years after UIP ceased to exist and Universal Pictures Intl. took over German distribution of its own films as well as those of Paramount and DreamWorks.
“Paramount believes strongly in the German marketplace and we feel it holds a lot of potential for growth for both local and foreign films and we look to participate in both under Sven’s leadership and guidance,” said Andrew Cripps, president of Paramount Pictures Intl., in announcing the appointment.
Sturm has served as head of marketing at Sony Pictures Releasing in Germany since 2000. Prior to that, he held senior management positions with Universal Music in Germany.
Sam Mendes’ “Revolutionary Road,” which reunites “Titanic” threesome Leonardo DiCaprio, Kate Winslet and Kathy Bates, is expected to be the distrib’s first release.
