'Genius' to receive prize at Hamptons festival

Helmer Marc Abraham’s “Flash of Genius” has won the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Award, which will be presented during the 2008 Hamptons Film Festival.

The honor, which includes a $25,000 prize, is given annually to a film that addresses science and technology issues.

“Flash of Genius,” starring Greg Kinnear and Alan Alda, is based on the true story of college professor and part-time inventor Robert Kearns’ long patent infringement battle with the U.S. auto industry over the creation of intermittent windshield wipers.

Pic, inspired by a New Yorker article by John Seabrook, was written by Philip Railsback and directed by Abraham.

Pic will have a Gotham premiere at MOMA on Oct. 2. Hamptons Fest runs Oct. 15-19.
