Paul Hogan to star in 'Charlie & Boots'

SYDNEY — Oz’s new super federal funder Screen Australia has announced its first slate with 25 projects sharing $A86 million ($75 million) in coin.

As previously reported, Paul Hogan will team with Shane Jacobson in high-profile pic “Charlie & Boots,” one of four features to get funding (Daily Variety, Aug. 19).

Others are helmer Simon Wincer’s “The Cup,” about Oz’s famous Melbourne Cup horse race, produced by Jan Bladier, David Lee, Lance Hool and Wincer; unconventional love story “Love and Mortar” by vet helmer Nadia Tass, produced by David Parker, Richard Keddie and Tass; and tyro helmer Brendan Fletcher’s “Mad Bastards,” produced by Alan Pigram, Stephen Pigram and Fletcher.

A slew of kid fare is also on the slate including a second outing for popular skein “Dogstar” from producers Colin South and Ross Hutchens, and a third series of “H20 Just Add Water” from top kids’ producer Jonathan M. Shiff.
