Five projects given funds
MOSCOW — The second phase of the Sarajevo Film Festival’s new talent campus has been greenlighted after grants to five young filmmakers from the Balkans region were approved as part of its City of Film project. The filmmakers, participants in Sarajevo’s first talent campus last year, have each received grants of up to Euros 10,000 ($14,500) to make a low-budget short set in and around Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia-Herzegovina. Backed by the local federal government and ministry of culture and sports, the scheme is designed to give “talented filmmakers a practical opportunity to demonstrate the knowledge they gained at the first Sarajevo talent campus,” the festival said. To develop inter-regional links, each production has a core three members — a producer, director and actor — coming from at least two different countries. The stipulation is in accordance with credo of a festival founded when the city was under siege during the Bosnian civil war in 1995, to use film to foster interregional and international understanding. The projects were chosen by a jury that included Izeta Gradevic, SFF creative director, Dorothee Wenner, head of the Berlinale Talent Campus, Amra Baksic Camo, director of Sarajevo’s CineLink project and Elma Tataragic, Sarajevo festival competition program selector. Shooting will start in the spring with the finished films ready to screen at the second talent campus at the 14th edition of the SFF in August. The five projects are: “Alena’s Journey” Director: Karoly Ujj-Meszaros, Hungary Producer: Csanad Darvas, Hungary Actor: Boris Ler, Bosnia-Herzegovina “The Roof” Director: Matija Debeljuh, Croatia Producer: Antoneta Kusijanovic, Croatia Actor: Adnan Haskovic, Bosnia-Herzegovina “Sarajevo Spring” Director: Nikolina Baric, Croatia Producer: Sehad Cehic, Montenegro Actress: Erifili Stefanidou, Greece “See You in Sarajevo” Director: Vanja Svilicic, Croatia Producer: Sinisa Juricic, Croatia Actress: Manca Dorrer, Slovenia “Shopping” Director: Alen Drljevic, Bosnia-Herzegovina Producer: Tiha Gudac, Croatia Actress: Alena Dzebo, Bosnia-Herzegovina
