Robin Williams named ‘Greatest Dad’

Bobcat Goldthwait to write, direct dark comedy

Robin Williams has signed on to star in the dark comedy “World’s Greatest Dad” for Darko Entertainment.

Bobcat Goldthwait wrote the screenplay and will direct.

Story centers on a single dad and high school teacher who finds his son dead after an apparent autoerotic accident. In an effort to give his son dignity in death, he pens a suicide note that is accidentally leaked to the student paper. Darko’s Richard Kelly, Sean McKittrick and Ted Hamm are producing alongside Tim Perell and Howard Gertler of Process Media.

CAA, which reps Darko, packaged the film with Cinetic, which handles Process. The two are co-repping North American rights to the film, which starts shooting in Seattle next week.

Darko, a production and financing company launched last year, is in production on “I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell,” based on Tucker Max’s best-seller, and is in post-production on Kelly’s next film, an “The Box,” starring Cameron Diaz, James Marsden and Frank Langella.

Process is in post-production on the Dustin Hoffman-Emma Thompson starrer “Last Chance Harvey” with Overture Films and is in production on the Bart Freundlich-helmed pic “The Rebound” with the Film Department.

Goldthwait, who began his career in standup comedy at age 15, made his writing-directing debut with the dark comedy “Shakes the Clown.” His writing-helming credits also include “Windy City Heat” and “Sleeping Dogs Lie.”
