Plum to adapt Coben’s ‘Innocent’

Celine Rattray ushers thriller to bigscreen

Plum Pictures is developing an adaptation of Harlan Coben’s thriller “The Innocent,” first published in 2005.

Coben’s the author of the mystery “Tell No One,” adapted by Guillaume Canet as a French-language production (“Ne le dis a persone”) and released earlier this year with grosses of $5 million in the U.S. and $27 million in France.

“The Innocent” centers on a middle-class New Jersey boy who goes to a prison after jumping into a drunken brawl to defend a friend and discovers when he gets out that he can’t get past his history.

Plum’s Celine Rattray picked up the rights after seeing “Tell No One” and reading through Coben’s other novels. His latest book, “Hold Tight,” debuted at No. 1 on the New York Times bestseller list.

Plum sold two films at Sundance: “Diminished Capacity” to IFC and “Birds in America” to First Look.
