Degeneres, 'Pirates,' 'Grey's' big winners

Winners at the 34th annual People’s Choice Awards were announced on Tuesday night, with Ellen DeGeneres, the cast of “Grey’s Anatomy” and the latest installment of “Pirates of the Caribbean” coming out on top in several categories.

In a CBS broadcast hosted by Queen Latifah, award winners in 36 film, television and music categories were announced, tallied by year-round votes from the public.

“Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End” won in both the favorite movie and threequel categories, while “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” and “Knocked Up” took home aards for drama and comedy, respectively. Fox’s “House” was voted favorite TV drama, and CBS skein “Two and a Half Men” won TV comedy.

Reese Witherspoon, Johnny Depp, Drew Barrymore, Joaquin Phoenix, Keira Knightley, Matt Damon, George Clooney and Brad Pitt all won kudos in varying film acting categories. Katherine Heigl, Patrick Dempsey, Chandra Wilson and Ellen DeGeneres were favorites in TV acting categories.

A new, strike-friendly format for this year’s show took film crews on location to capture winners’ acceptance speeches, including Robin Williams on a USO tour in Kabul and music group winner Rascal Flatts at the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville.
