Duo pact for two-year first-look deal

Overture Films has signed a two-year first-look deal with Crescendo Prods., headed by Don Cheadle, Lenore Zerman and Kay Liberman.

Overture CEO Chris McGurk and chief operating officer Danny Rosett made the announcement Monday and noted that the deal reunites them with the producers of “Traitor,” an Overture Films release starring Cheadle. The thesp also starred in “Hotel Rwanda,” distribbed by MGM and UA, while McGurk and Rosett were toppers at the Lion.

Crescendo’s projects include the documentary “Darfur Now” and a Miles Davis biopic that’s in development. The shingle will remain in offices outside Overture’s Beverly Hills HQ but will work closely with McGurk, Rosett and marketing/distribution prexy Peter Adee.

Two-year-old Overture has previously signed first-look deals with Lawrence Bender, George Tillman and Bob Teitel’s State Street and Philip Seymour Hoffman and Emily Ziff’s Cooper’s Town Prods. Its upcoming pics are “Nothing Like the Holidays,” “Last Chance Harvey” and “Sunshine Cleaning.”
