France Telecom’s Orange TV will launch an IPTV service in the U.K. by the end of the year. France Telecom Group chairman-CEO Didier Lombard made that announcement at Mip TV Wednesday after delivering a keynote speech.
Delay in the launch had been caused by slowness in getting authorization from the U.K. regulator, not any concern for prices, Lombard added.
FT created waves at Mip TV, announcing long-term exclusive deals for WB movies and HBO series for new premium paybox Orange Cinema Service and stating that it would deliver OCS to remote parts of France by Eutelsat satellite.
FT may use satellite for its new Orange TV service in the U.K., said Herve Payan, Orange VP. Whether to tap exclusive premium content had not been decided, but was less likely, he added.
