Na Hong-jin plotting ‘Murderer’

Director eyes dark thriller as next project

Korean helmer Na Hong-jin’s next pic will be “The Murderer.”

Na’s first film, “The Chaser,” was the surprise hit of this year, and Warner Bros. has snapped it up for an English-language remake that may star Leonardo DiCaprio (Daily Variety, March 6).

“The Chaser” scored more than 5 million admissions at the Korean box office and gets its international preem in a midnight screening slot in Cannes’ Official Selection.

Na spent four years crafting the screenplay, an unlikely story of pimps and serial killers, before helming from his own script.

“Murderer” is the dark tale of a man forced to become a murderer to overcome starvation.

Korea’s IM Pictures is an investor, but budget and casting have yet to be determined. Na said he will finish the script after returning from Cannes.
