Korea Society to screen four seldom-seen films
New York City’s Korea Society will screen four seldom-seen North Korean films this month at its Special Feature Series Classic Movie Night.
The series will open with “Hong Kil Dong” on May 12, continuing with “Bellflower” the next night and “My Look in the Distant Future” on the 14th. The series will close with “The Ball Shot by a Midget” on May 15.
“Distant Future” was produced in 1997, just after a famine devastated the country. The three other films were created during the 1980s and address the country’s economic and social issues.
According to Yuni Cho, senior program officer at the Korea Society, the screenings will mark the first time any North Korean films have screened in New York.
