Mike Tollin acquires ‘In the Space’

Production co. to adapt coming-of-age novel

Mike Tollin Prods. has acquired screen rights to “In the Space Left Behind,” a comic coming-of-age novel by Joan Ackermann. The author will pen the script.

Tollin will produce with Sam Weissman and Todd Dagres. Dagres’ Spark Capital financed the acquisition of the young adult novel, which was published last year by HarperTeen/Geringer.

Story follows a teenager in an eccentric family who has his life upended by the return of his absentee father. While his mother heads to Vegas for her third honeymoon, dad offers his son the opportunity to collect the $70,000 bounty on his head. Tollin has known Ackermann since she was a writer on the HBO series “Arliss.” She also scripted the Campbell Scott-directed film “Off the Map.” Kim Zubick will be executive producer.
