Michael Giacchino nabs Oscar gig

'Ratatouille' composer named music director

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has tapped Michael Giacchino as the musical director for the 2009 Oscars.

Giacchino, who received an Oscar nomination last year for his original score for “Ratatouille,” will compose and conduct scores for the upcoming “Star Trek,” “Land of the Lost” and Pixar’s “Up.”

Nominations for the 81st Academy Awards will be announced Jan. 22 at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater. The ceremony will be held Feb. 22 at the Kodak Theater and televised live on ABC.
