Leo, Jenkins, McCarthy, Bieber take prizes
Melissa Leo won the Geraldine Page Award for best actress for her perf in “Lullaby,” and Richard Jenkins took home the John Garfield Award for actor for “The Visitor” at the 10th Method Fest on April 3.Indie film gala took place at Viewpoint School’s Carlson Family Theater in Calabasas. “The acting performances in this year’s films exceeded anything we had seen before at the Method Fest. The overall quality of the films in the festival was also higher, and some awards were almost impossible for the judges to determine,” said Don Franken, the fest’s executive director. Other winners: The jury award for picture was presented to “Unfinished Sky,” directed by Peter Duncan. The aud nod for picture was presented to “Chain Link,“ directed by Dylan Reynolds. Supporting actress in a feature film went to Danai Gurira for “The Visitor,” and supporting actor in a feature film to John Saxon for “God’s Ears.” Tom McCarthy, helmer of “The Visitor,” drew feature director kudos. Screenplay nod went to Rick Bieber for “Crazy.” The ensemble cast prize was presented to the cast of “Familiar Strangers,” directed by Zachary Adler and starring Shawn Hatosy, D.J. Qualls, Cameron Richardson, Ann Dowd, Nikki Reed and Tom Bower. “Harrison Montgomery,” directed by Daniel Davila, was lauded for high quality in low-budget filmmaking.
