Streisand's heart bleeds for Cedars Sinai

ROSE MCGOWAN really knows her movie lore and makes for an erudite and dazzling new co-host on Turner Classic Movies’ “Essentials.” Rose, famous for her pitch-black locks in the TV series “Charmed” and the 2007 feature “Grindhouse,” is now blond. She went blond for the remake of “Barbarella” being directed by Robert Rodriguez. (Rodriguez and Rose are engaged.) Rose insists the new “Barbarella” is still a go despite the pending actors strike. … But one wonders if the innocent and “high camp” Roger Vadim/Jane Fonda 1968 version should even be tampered with? Audiences were once shocked to see Jane’s gravity-free striptease over the opening titles. There were coy glimpses of her body throughout. But the movie was more funny than salacious.

THE COMIC genius Tina Fey will be reading a book to children and doing a quick Q&A before the American Express screening of her new movie “Baby Mama” at the “Insider Center” in the Tribeca Film Festival Friday. If you want a different glimpse of Tina, sign on to the Wowowow.com website and read about my lunch with her and the editors of Marie Claire. We went to Michaels and had a ball.

BARBRA STREISAND recently made a $5 million gift to Cedars Sinai, endowing a research program devoted to women’s heart ailments. Streisand told us, “The reason I made this gift to support cardiac research for women was because for decades women have been treated based on medical research done on men, even though women are impacted more significantly by heart disease. I think that’s kind of ridiculous. It’s about time that proper research be done and communicated to women, so they will be more informed about their health.” This latest gift to Cedars brings donated money from her last tour up to $16 million. … Ben Elton is working with Andrew Lloyd Webber on the sequel to “Phantom of the Opera.” This new Phantom goes to Coney Island but they’re probably going to just name the musical “Phantom of the Opera II.”
