SYDNEY — The Melbourne Intl. Film Festival will open July 25 with “Not Quite Hollywood,” a local documentary that received coin from the fest’s Premiere Fund launched a year ago. Docu looks at a wave of renegade ’70s and ’80s films dubbed Ozploitation and features interviews with Quentin Tarantino.
“To open our festival with a Premiere Fund film in the first year of its operation is obviously a historic and important moment for us,” said exec director Richard Moore.
Fest’s closing film will be the Spanish horror pic “REC,” co-helmed by Jaume Balaguero and Paco Plaza.
MIFF runs from July 25 to Aug. 10.
