Collins pic takes 14 nominations

LONDON — “Kings,” Ireland’s first ever submission for the foreign-language Oscar, heads the nominations for this year’s Irish Film & TV Awards with 14 nods.

“Kings,” directed by Tom Collins, is competing for the best film prize with “Becoming Jane,” “Closing the Ring,” “Garage” and “Shrooms,” which were all shot in Ireland.

In the separate category of best international film, the nominees are “Atonement,” “The Bourne Ultimatum,” “La Vie en rose” and “The Lives of Others.”

The IFTAs, now in their fifth year, are designed to recognize Irish talent working in local or international movies and TV shows.

Lenny Abrahamson and Mark O’Halloran confirm their status as the hottest director/writer team in Ireland, with 11 for their movie “Garage” and five for their TV drama “Prosperity.”

Showtime’s series “The Tudors,” which shot in Ireland, leads the TV noms with eight.

The winners will be announced Feb. 17 at a ceremony in Dublin’s Gaiety Theater.
