LONDON — Justin Chadwick will write and direct “The Tenderness of Wolves” for Film4 and Target Entertainment Group.
“The Other Boleyn Girl” helmer Chadwick is writing the screenplay from Stef Penney’s prize-winning novel about a mother searching for her son in a small frontier town in Canada in 1867. Book, which is published by Quercas, has sold in more than 30 territories.
Project, skedded to shoot next year and budgeted at approximately $20 million, is being developed by Film4’s Katherine Butler, produced by Kate McCreery at Target Entertainment and exec produced by Film4 topper Tess Ross. MBA literary agent Diana Tyler struck the option deal.
Target is also developing a number of other literary adaptations, including a big screen version of Dan Mills’ “Sniper One” novel, Geoff Nicolson’s “Bleeding London” and Kfir Yefet’s “The Smell of Apples” from Mark Behr’s debut novel.
Target’s first feature film, the political thriller “Endgame,” which stars William Hurt, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Jonny Lee Miller and Mark Strong will world preem at the Sundance Film Festival.
