Award to be given during Venice festival

ROME — U.S. artist Jeff Koons is among the selectors/jurors of this year’s Gucci Group Award given in tandem with the Venice Film Festival to personalities outside the movie industry who have made an outstanding contribution to a film.

The Gucci Group nod’s selection committee besides the neo pop provocateur also includes Venice artistic topper Marco Mueller, Vogue Italy editor-in-chief Franca Sozzani, and the creative director of Yves Saint Laurent, Stefano Sozzani.

Nominees for the prize, now at its third edition, will be announced in early July. Candidates are internationally acclaimed artists who over the past 18 months have had key input in a pic as either directors, thesps, scribes, costume or set designers.

Past winners are Nick Cave and Julian Schnabel.

This year’s winner will be announced Sept. 1 during a gala in Palazzo Grassi on the Grand Canal.

The Venice Film Festival, which will open with the Coen brothers’ spy comedy “Burn After Reading,” will run Aug. 27-Sept. 6.
