Icon hijacks ‘Transporter 3’

Besson film switches driver in U.K., Australia

Brit indie distrib Icon Film Distribution has snapped up U.K. and Australian rights to Luc Besson produced shoot-em’-up actioner “Transporter 3” from EuropaCorp.

Brit thesp Jason Statham reprises the lead role in the third installment of the franchise, which is directed by Olivier Megaton from a script by Besson and Robert Mark Kamen.

Pic reteams Statham with co-star Francois Berleand with Robert Knepper (“Prison Break”) joining the cast.

Previous two “Transporter” pics were released by Fox in the U.K. Original in the franchise took $1.4 million at the U.K. box office and $47 million worldwide and sophomore effort scored $2 million and $88 million worldwide for a franchise total of $135 million.

Both pics have proved solid earners on homevid.

EuropaCorp, TF1 Films Prods., Grive Prods. and Apipoulai Prods. are collaborating on “Transporter 3” in association with Current Entertainment.

EuropaCorp is handling all international sales.
