HONOREES

  • French actress Nathalie Baye will be honored by a 20 film retrospective, including a screening of her latest vehicle “God’s Offices,” directed by Claire Simon.

  • Finnish helmer Aki Kaurismaki gets a 26-film retrospective that includes shorts and features. His silent feature “Juha” (1999) will be accompanied by a 15-piece Finnish band in the open air.

  • Prolific French screenwriter Jean-Claude Carriere, whose last screenplay was for Volker Schlondorff’s “Ulzhan,” gets a 15-film retrospective and gives a master class with fellow writer Michel Ciment.

  • Taiwanese kung-fu filmmaker Joseph Kuo is toasted with a four-film retrospective, including a screening of his 1968 classic “King of Swords.” Kuo also gives a master class.

  • Canadian director David Cronenberg will present a double screening of his 1987 film “The Fly” and Kurt Neumann’s 1958 B-movie predecessor of the same name.

SEMINARS

  • A key seminar will debate how the French government’s Commission Cope, which plans to outlaw ads on France’s public television channels, will impact the Gallic film industry.

  • Another panel will discuss a new generation of filmmakers who exploit the Internet to have their work seen and what impact they are having on more traditional filmmaking.

WORKSHOP

  • The Ateliers du Cinema Europeen, a schooling organization for indie Euro producers, will discuss how films are financed and can be co-produced in Western Europe.
