Fox Atomic chief named executive VP, CMO
Fox Atomic’s outgoing chief operating officer John Hegeman is moving across the lot to New Regency Prods. as executive veep and chief marketing officer.Move comes on the heels of the studio shuttering Atomic’s marketing arm earlier this month. Hegeman will start in the newly created position immediately and report to New Regency CEO Bob Harper. In his post, Hegeman will oversee the company’s marketing strategy and plans from theatrical release through all ancillary distribution windows. Hegeman — who some credit as the marketing brains behind “The Blair Witch Project” — co-founded Atomic two years ago with Peter Rice. During his stint, Atomic released four movies including “28 Weeks Later” and launched a graphic novel label, Fox Atomic Comics. New Regency is eager to exploit Hegeman’s strong ties with 20th Century Fox, which distributes New Regency’s films. “His ability to hit the ground running and work closely alongside the amazing marketing team at Fox adds an element of synergy and compatibility to our partnership with the studio,” Harper said. Before Atomic, the 20-year showbiz veteran was president of worldwide marketing at Lionsgate, where he spearheaded the campaigns for “Saw,” “Saw II,” “Diary of a Mad Black Woman” and “Crash.” New Regency’s recent credits include “Meet the Spartans,” which bowed last weekend at No. 1, and “Alvin and the Chipmunks” with Fox 2000. Upcoming titles include Doug Liman’s “Jumper” and “The Night Watchman,” starring Keanu Reeves and Forest Whitaker.
