Org hands out lifetime achievement awards
Gene Autry, gospel singers the Blind Boys of Alabama, the Four Tops, jazz pianist Hank Jones, Brenda Lee, Dean Martin and folkie Tom Paxton will receive lifetime achievement nods at the 51st annual Grammy Awards.
Producer George Avakian, classical composer Elliott Carter and legendary New Orleans musician Allen Toussaint will be honored with the Trustees Award. Guitar maker Leo Fender and Universal Audio will receive the Technical Grammy nod.
Awards will be handed out Feb. 7, the day before the Grammy telecast.
The lifetime achievement kudo honors artistic contributions to the recording medium, while the Trustees Award recognizes contributions in a nonperforming capacity.
Meanwhile, Coldplay heads the list of Grammy nominees that will perform the songs of Neil Diamond at the MusiCares Person of the Year gala held during Grammy week.
Adele, Foo Fighters, Josh Groban, Jennifer Hudson, Raul Malo, Tim McGraw are among those who will perform Feb. 6 at the Recording Academy fete at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
Luxury items, VIP experiences and celebrity memorabilia are auctioned to raise funds for MusiCares, the org that provides music industry people with financial, medical and personal assistance.
