Popular Argentine thesp Guillermo Francella and Veronica Llinas will topline “Choripan,” the upcoming production from vet Argentine producer Lita Stantic, whose tango-themed “Cafe de los Maestros” has screened in Panorama at Berlin.
Directed by Alfredo Arias, “Choripan” will be produced by Stantic, Edgard Tenenbaum’s Tu Vas Voir in France, who produced “The Motorcycle Diaries,” and Pedro and Agustin Almodovar’s El Deseo, forming part of the Almodovar brothers’ Argentine five-pic slate.
“Choripan” is in pre-production.
Francella is an institution in Argentina, being one of its most popular film and TV comic actors.
“Choripan” is described by Stantic as a “madcap comedy with a very human touch,” turning on a fiftysomething middle-class couple who suddenly hit hard times economically.
Panorama screener “Cafe de los maestros” played to a warm reception at Berlin, becoming at its audience screening a tribute to the three Argentine tango virtuosos featured in the film and present in Berlin.
“This isn’t a retro film. It demonstrates the vitality and diversity of tango,” Stantic said.
