Fox follows Star to Bollywood

Joint venture will make Hindi films with locals

Twentieth Century Fox Film Corp. is in talks with its News Corp. Indian sibling Star to enter Bollywood.

Unlike a previous foray into the Hindi film industry in 2003, this joint venture with Rupert Murdoch’s TV biz will be a full-fledged film production company and make Hindi pics with local talent.

That earlier effort with helmer Ram Gopal Varma yielded the film “Ek hasina thi,” which was dubbed the most expensive Bollywood pic but was a box office dud.

A Fox rep confirmed the studio’s developing activity in India and said that a more formal announcement will be made shortly.
