Florida critics praise ‘Slumdog’

Boyle's drama continues to rack up awards

The Florida Film Critics Circle added their two cents to the awards season by naming “Slumdog Millionaire” as the best feature of 2008. The much-lauded drama also earned prizes for director Danny Boyle and writer Simon Beaufoy.

Mickey Rourke won another accolade for his turn in “The Wrestler,” while Melissa Leo was named best actress for her performance in “Frozen River.”

Martin McDonagh took home the award for breakout of the year for “In Bruges,” which he wrote and directed.

Dick Morris of the Sarasota Film Society won the Golden Orange, given for outstanding contribution to the local film industry.
