Simon Brand's immigrant drama played Tribeca

Filmax has acquired international sales rights and theatrical rights for Spain on immigrant drama “Paraiso Travel” from Paraiso Pictures and Grand Illusions Entertainment.

Pic had its North American premiere Saturday at the Tribeca Film Festival. It was released in January in Colombia and has become one of that market’s top grossers of all time.

Story, adapted from Jorge Franco’s novel, centers on a young Colombian man who leaves his comfortable life and flees through Guatemala and Mexico and illegally into the U.S.

The film was directed by Simon Brand and produced by Santiago Diaz, Juan Rendon, Alex Pereira and Isaac Lee of Paraiso Pictures and exec produced by Jonathan Sanger, Ed Elbert and Sarah Black of Grand Illusions Entertainment and Jorge Perez.

CAA is repping North American rights. Filmax has registered the film to play at the Cannes film market.
