Fox readies Brazilian helmer's 'Se eu' sequel
RIO DE JANEIRO — Vet helmer Daniel Filho starts production on family comedy “Se eu fosse voce — 2” (If I Were You — 2) on May 12, targeted to fill a comedy release slot in early 2009. First pic in the franchise grossed 28.9 million reais ($13.5 million), making it the top local pic of 2006 and third overall.
“If I Were You – 2” is a production of Total Filmes, Filho’s Lereby Producoes, Fox and local media giant Organizacoes Globo’s theatrical arm Globo Filmes. Fox will distribute in Brazil.
“Since the first film opened in 2006, Fox has asked for a sequel. I accepted when I managed to find a good story,” said Filho.
Tony Ramos and Gloria Pires will reprise their roles from the first installment. They are both local national stars with long careers on popular TV Globo telenovelas.
In the first pic, husband and wife temporarily switched bodies, due to an astrological phenomenon, which eventually allowed them to understand each other better. In this new pic, the couple is on the verge of a separation until another extraordinary phenomenon takes places.
The 3.9 million-budgeted pic is scheduled to open in Jan. 2009, at the height of Brazil’s summer vacation, which has proved a fertile release period for local comedies.
