'Kabei,' 'Soul of a Demon' to kick off event
Japanese helmer Yoji Yamada’s meller “Kabei — Our Mother” and Taiwanese magical realist tale “Soul of a Demon,” by Chang Tso-chi, will open the Hong Kong Film Festival on March 18.
Martin Scorsese’s Rolling Stones concert docu “Shine a Light” and “Coffee or Tea,” a love triangle story co-helmed by local academic and filmmaker Shu Kei and his student Kwan Man-hin, will close the event April 6.
Yamada will receive a lifetime achievement prize at the Asian Film Awards ceremony on March 17. Director Ishii Yuya, whose film “Mukidashi Nippon” (“Bare-Assed Japan”) preemed in Rotterdam last month, will get the first Edward Yang new talent award.
