Funny Balloons sells Pablo Larrain film
Paris-based sales company Funny Balloons has sold Pablo Larrain’s “Tony Manero” to Network for U.K., Ripley’s Film for Italy, Sophie Dulac Distribution for France, Imovision for Brazil, and Vendetta Films for Australia and New Zealand.
Pic received upbeat reactions after its premiere in Directors’ Fortnight on Saturday.
Larain’s second film, “Tony Manero,” is set in Santiago of Chile in 1979, as Pinochet’s regime cracked down on anti-governmental activists. Meanwhile, an over-the-hill and increasingly off-the-rails TV impersonator of John Travolta’s character from “Saturday Night Fever” tries desperately to get money together to buy a Tony Manero outfit.
