An omnibus film about today’s Germany featuring segments by Teutonic helmers Fatih Akin, Wolfgang Becker and Tom Tykwer among others, has received e500,000 ($800,000) from Germany’s largest film subsid board, North-Rhine Westphalia’s Filmstiftung NRW.
“Deutschland 09” will combine documentary and fiction from a who’s who of the local film industry including Dominik Graf, Sylke Enders, Romuald Karmakar, Isabelle Stever, Nicolette Krebitz, Hans Steinbichler and Hans Weingartner.
Pic will be a latter-day version of the 1978 hit “Deutschland im Herbst” that explored the social and political upheaval of the late 1970s.
” ‘Deutschland 09’ will include a dozen individual film sequences of what we experience today in our country and what links us, confuses us and puts us in this place,” said Tykwer. “It’s a political, poetic and personal reaction to the complexities of Germany at the moment.”
Pic will be produced for Herbstfilm by Tykwer and Dirk Wilutzky.
