'Man Comes Home' takes audience prize

Gallic helmer Laurent Cantet’s Cannes Palme d’Or winner “The Class” won the critics’ award at the Norwegian Intl. Film Festival at Haugesund.

Even though the Norwegian fest is non-competitive, several awards were handed out as the final curtain fell.

The audience award went to Thomas Vinterberg’s “A Man Comes Home,” the Ecumenical Andreas Award went to Erik Poppe’s “Troubled Water” and the Bringer of Joy Award went to Mike Leigh’s “Happy-Go-Lucky,” with honorary mentions to Vinterberg’s pic and local docu “99% Honest,” helmed by Rune Denstad Langlo.

Honorary awards also went to U.K. critic Derek Malcolm, local critic Martin Nordvik and Norwegian kid film helmer Arne Lindtner Naess.

Fest this year had 1,600 professional participants and an audience of more than 35,000, which is a new record.
