Titles are 'Chico,' 'Target,' Heartless'
LONDON — CinemaNX, the new film financing and production venture bankrolled by the Isle of Man, has committed to three projects: Spanish animated pic “Chico & Rita,” hitman caper “Wild Target” and urban horror movie “Heartless.”“Heartless” is written and directed by Philip Ridley, and will star Jim Sturgess, Clemence Poesy, Noel Clarke and Timothy Spall. It’s produced by Richard Raymond and Pippa Cross, with Omega Entertainment repping international sales and Cinetic Media handling North American rights. “Wild Target,” budgeted at $8 million, will star Bill Nighy and Helena Bonham Carter. Producers are Martin Pope and Michael Rose of Magic Light Pictures. Magic Light is also co-producing the Spanish-language toon “Chico & Rita,” directed by Xavier Mariscal and Fernando Trueba. It’s shooting in Spain, Hungary and the Isle of Man. NX launched last year with the backing of the Isle of Man’s $100 million rolling film fund. The company shot its first two movies this spring. Andy Cadiff’s comedy “A Bunch of Amateurs” stars Burt Reynolds as a fading American action star tricked into appearing in an amateur staging of “King Lear” in an English village. Producer is David Parfitt of Trademark Films. Richard Linklater’s “Me and Orson Welles” is a coming-of-age drama set in 1930s Broadway starring Zac Efron. U.S. rights to both movies are being repped by Cinetic, with Odyssey handling international rights. NX chairman Steve Christian said, “We went in at the deep end by taking Richard Linklater’s ‘Me and Orson Welles’ out of New York to shoot on the Isle of Man and at Pinewood. With the dollar rate fairly consistent at 2 to 1 against us, we really did show that we could put together a competitive financing and producing package.” “ ‘Bunch’ is very warm, very funny and marks the end of a five-year development cycle for Isle of Man Films and Trademark Films,” he added.
