Film was a hit in Finland

Finnish hit “Christmas Story” has been acquired for distribution in Spain and Turkey.

Produced by Snapper Films, pic is being sold worldwide by Delphis Films. Spanish rights were picked up by Flins & Piniculas, while the Turkish rights were acquired by R Films.

Directed by Juha Wuolijoki, the E2.5 million “Story” tells the backstory of Santa Claus — how the boy became jolly icon in the red suit.

Film was the highest-grossing local pic in Finland in 2007, with 265,000 admissions in six weeks leading up to Christmas. Sandrew Metronome distribs across Scandinavia.

Flins & Piniculas plans to release the pic theatrically next Christmas.

And English-language dub is being readied, with Todd Thaler (“Leon,” “Arthur and the Invisibles”) casting.

Snapper Films develops both Finnish films and TV projects as well as U.S. independent fare out of its Gotham office.
