Studio makes first network-window deal

BET Networks and the Weinstein Co. have struck a first network-window deal on a multi-pic package of theatrical releases.

Separately, Hallmark Channel has cut a deal for 80 pics from Fox’s Twentieth Television distrib wing.

The BET-TWC pact gives the Viacom-owned cabler smallscreen rights to “The Longshots,” upcoming releases “Soul Men” and “Hurricane Season,” plus last year’s Denzel Washington-helmed “The Great Debaters.”

BET will also serve as a promotional partner for “Soul” and “Hurricane” and provide exclusive primetime events in conjunction with their premieres.

Hallmark’s haul from Twentieth includes such titles as “Big,” “Home Alone,” “Garfield,” “Mrs. Doubtfire,” “Speed” and “My Cousin Vinny.”

It also gives Hallmark the TV preem rights to the Fox Searchlight docu “Young@Heart,” which will run on both Hallmark Channel and its sibling Hallmark Movie Channel.

Other pics in the package include “Edward Scissorhands,” “Waitress” and “Working Girl.”
